Hand Piecing Experiment

Every couple of months I get on a hand stitching high. Well, I am on a hand stitching high right now. When I moved a couple of months ago, I was stuck in a hotel room for two weeks and I fell back in love with hand work. There has been a Sew Along that I have been eyeing for almost a year but hadn't had the time to actually sit down and do it.

The Hand Pieced Quilt Along is not just hand quilting, it's hand piecing as well!! Dear Jesus. I don't know why that scares me, women did it for hundreds of years, but hand piecing is a big mountain that I'm not sure I trust myself on. But I'm going to do it anyway.

I trotted down to Sewtropolis here in Minneapolis and picked out a few fat quarters and some background fabric. I also stopped by Michaels and grabbed a ruler and new scissors because if I'm going to do this, I'm going to go all the way, cutting pieces by hand. I'm crazy. I know. But I'm the kind of person that goes all the way.

I'm excited to cut my pieces out and try my hand at this vintage skill. I think this will be an awesome project to do on the plane or the bus, so I will keep you updated on my progress.

Update: I have completed two blocks and am working on my third!

April Bee Blocks

Whew. My life is finally normal again. The move is over, the trips are over, and finally I can get back in the swing of things. I was a little worried about getting my bee blocks done over the past couple of months just because of all of the interruptions in my normal life. But FINALLY I am settled and in a routine and I could not be happier. I have been quilting a lot in the past couple of weeks and getting back on the horse so I will be working on getting that stuff up here so ya'll can see what I've been working on.

Here are the blocks that I did for my March Bees:

May Bee Blocks

I finished my bee blocks very early this month and only had one to finish up by the 15th! Super proud of myself! I definitely think as my bees finish I'm going to start phasing out of them just because I don't have time to work on projects that I want to do because I have to do bee blocks. I love doing them but I'm going to try and get down to one or two. This months' bee blocks were a lot of fun, I liked them all, but I definitely am starting to run out of low volume prints. Low volume is all the rage right now and there have been lots of blocks that have those fabrics. I had a few but now my little collection has dwindled and I'm debating on how much I should stock up on while also being budget friendly. Ugh... if only I had unlimited money..:)

Without further ado...

BeeJeebers - my favorite bee and also my favorite block this month!! The tutorial is here, by Melissa, who blogs are Happy Quilting and is a member in our bee!
