Sorta Summit Sneak Peek

I am very excited to announce that I will be a part of the Sorta Summit over at Distant Pickles! Basically for those of us that aren't able to attend the Sewing Summit this coming weekend Bree and Julie are putting on an online version of some classes taught by bloggers around the webosphere to give us a Sorta Summit experience! We are in the middle of getting all the classes put together right now. There will be a variety of different classes from garment sewing, quilting, blocks, etc.

I'm excited to share with you the class that I will be teaching. It will be on my Rainbow Starburst String Block that I made for my Beejeebers Bee this past month. I got so many great comments from my readers and everyone in the bee loved the way it turned out, but some had some trouble with the bias, making me think that this a good class to teach to work through that issue but also provide a really cool block that you can use for not only a quilt, but even a mini or a pillow.

I am in the middle of trying to figure out if I want to do traditional tutorial style with photos or trying and work in video (I've never done that before!) so I'll be testing some of that out. I hope you're as excited as I am and I hope you take part! It will all be happening about mid-November so stay tuned! I have finished up the first part, decided what to do and preparing a class description.

Here's my class description:

In this class you will learn how to put together the Rainbow Starburst String Block. This block finishes at 16.5 inches square so it can be used in a quilt, as a mini, or even as a pillow. This is an adaptation of Molly Flander’s block seen here with a couple of dimension adjustments, while also incorporating the use of color wheel. Come see how to use your scraps to create a stunning block while mastering foundation piecing on the bias!

I will be sharing more with you as everything progresses but for now I'm excited to work on this W.I.P.!

DMQG Raffle Blocks

The Dallas Modern Quilt Guild hosted a cool challenge this past month. They decided to have a raffle of sets of quilt blocks made my the members with a certain color scheme and improv piecing style. Each block you made counted as an entry for a set of blocks. So, the more you made, the more entries you got. I decided to make three for the challenge.

DMQG Raffle Block 1

DMQG Raffle Block 2

DMQG Raffle Block 3

I really liked the first two but the third one was sort of a fail. I had this cool idea and then it didn't turn out like I wanted it to and it was too small.. Anyways, I added the orange border and it made it better but it still wasn't as cool as my other two blocks.

I didn't end up winning any of the blocks but that's fine, I'm still excited to see what the quilts people make up with them will look like. There were 6 block sets given away I think so there should be some good variety. I'm looking forward to some more cool things like this now that I finally took the leap to join.

Some More Bee Blocks

I am almost done with my bee blocks for the month and it's only the 4th of October! I knocked out another 2 yesterday and today. Here is my second block for the Stash Bee.

Stash Bee Block 2 - October 2012

And here is my block for BeeJeebers. I LOVE LOVE LOVE ticker tape. So much. I made a really cool ticker tape mini for the Mini QT swap earlier this year and I have been meaning to make something for myself with this method. I just love the way it looks!

BeeJeebers Block - October 2012

My last 2 bee blocks are iSpy blocks. I have a shortage of novelty prints so I'll see what I can pull out of my stash. I need 18 little pictures... Might have some repeats. For some reason I have never gotten into novelty prints. Maybe it's because I don't have kids, I dunno. Anyways I am short some iSpy pictures so I might have to run to a local fabric store and grab some fat quarters.

Orrrr.... I could draw some pictures.. No, that would be horrendous. I'd feel bad for the kid that would have to look at those. I'll figure something out. Until then, happy sewing and quilting!

What I'm Working On.

I have gotten a really strong start to October and the commitments I have this month! I am in several swaps, all of which I am very excited about. It is so cool to see what people can create and to see people do things for other people that they wouldn't do in a million years for themselves, me included.

Half the stuff I send off I would never put the time and effort into making that item or items for myself, even if I want it super badly. I guess it goes back to the saying that you get more from giving than for getting. Anyways, here's the main part of my Modernista swap package.

Modernista Kitchen Towels

I will also be making a set of coasters in the next couple of weeks to go with these.

Here is the first block for the Stash Bee this month. She asked for a wonky star and a wonky log cabin so I'm half way done!

Stash Bee 1 - October 2012

Here is my block for the We Bee Modern Too Bee. This block is called Megan's Star and came from the Modern Blocks book that we are following along throughout this bee. So easy and I love the jewel tones she has decided to use with it.

We Bee Modern Too - October 2012

I also made another 5-6 black and white wonky stars for my cousin Tonya's quilt. They are not pictured here because it's starting to get hard to get all of them in one picture. I have about 15 now and I need 30. Again, half way there!

Black and White Wonky Stars

My goals for the coming week are:
- Finish the log cabin block for the Stash Bee
- Put together my ticker tape circle block for my BeeJeebers bee

I will be going out of town this weekend so I need to get them done before I leave Saturday or else it will be a lost cause!

I hope you are all having a wonderful week and happy sewing!

October Fresh Sewing Day

Wowie. October is already here! I put on a jacket for the first time this fall last night and I'm in Texas, so I think fall is truly on it's way.
Lily's Quilts

As always, I am linking up to Lily's Quilts for her beginning of the month Fresh Sewing Day. I got a lot done in September and I'm excited for October because I have a New Machine and I have already completed 2 of my 5 bee blocks and it's October 1st.

Watch out world. Some one is ahead of schedule! Anyways's let's get on with my September mosaic:

September's Creations

I still have a lot of that to finish but I did get a good chunk of stuff done. Way more than I've gotten done in the past couple of months. I'm excited for this fall. I have some really cool things coming up that I'm excited to share with you! I know I keep saying that but I have to nail down the details first before I spill the beans in the wrong pot, if you know what I'm saying!

I hope you all have a wonderful October and I am excited to meet some new bloggers as I always do through Lily's Fresh Sewing Day! Come back and visit!
